If you’re Essex based and looking for somewhere new to try for breakfast, lunch or dinner – I can’t recommend The Red Dog in Inworth more! With great prices and a compelling menu, I am already looking forward to my next visit.
Located in Inworth, about 15 minutes from Witham, and a little further from Chelmsford, The Red Dog is a burger bar serving some of the most delicious food in Essex – yes, I rate it that highly! Open until just 8pm most nights, this isn’t a late night venue but it’s certainly worth visiting at the weekend or for an early dinner during the week.
We opted for their nachos (the cheese sauce was genuinely the best I have ever eaten) and BBQ wings to start. I think this may have been my first foray in to breaded chicken wings, but I dont know where they have been all my life – they were absolutely delicious and I could have simply eaten a few portions of them and forgotten about anything else! I was delighted to discover, too, that the toppings were mixed in to the tortilla chips, meaning that once we got to the bottom of the portion there were no bland, plain tortilla chips left waiting!
As you would expect, the main menu is primarily focused around burgers – of which there are several options, which all sound equally as enticing. There are also a few other options should you not fancy a burger, including “knife & fork” fish dishes and hot dogs too. I have it on good account that the salmon on offer is out of this world, and certainly worth a try.
In the end I settled for the “Hen Pecked” burger which featured a marinated Chicken breast, hash browns, smoked bacon, jack cheese, guacamole and ‘comeback sauce’. I must admit, that often I have chosen a chicken burger only to be left disappointed because it is dry, but this burger was juicy and tender too. Perfectly accompanied by the other ingredients too.
Tater tots and fries on the side completed the meal.
For the starters, mains, sides and two drinks the bill came to around £40. Considering the quality of the food, and the portion sizing, I don’t think this is bad value at all and I would certainly return. It was great too that the restaurant utilised locally sourced ingredients, like Maldon sea salt from just down the road!
So if you’re nearby, pay a visit to The Red Dog and let me know what you think.0
