Middletons Steakhouse, Chelmsford

A new restaurant to visit is always a treat in my eyes, which is why I was delighted to hear that Middletons Steakhouse was opening in nearby Chelmsford – and I couldn’t wait to see what they had to offer!

Visiting one evening in December, the restaurant was fairly busy but the service was still incredibly personable and attentive. I arrived alone a little earlier than my booking, but was guided to the bar where my choice of drink was quickly served to me. I opted for a cocktail to start the evening, a Gin Fruit Shimmer (£6.95) which was absolutely delicious!

Containing raspberry gin, apple Schnapps, peach puree and sparkling elderflower presse – I could have drunk several of these, but it was a school night after all….

Once my guest arrived, we were shown to our table. The restaurant itself is decorated very well and has a stylish industrial feel to it. It was cosy at the same time however, and never felt too cold or empty which we really enjoyed.

To nibble, while we browsed the menu and decided what to have for the main feature, we shared some Mixed Marinated Olives (£2.45) and Pork Scratchings (£2.45). These were delicious and a good portion size too.

On to the main menu and I selected the Sticky BBQ Ribs (£5.50) to start, followed by a Half Grilled Lobster (£15.95) with garlic butter and homecooked wedges.

I want to start with how reasonable the prices were, £15 for lobster and a side dish seems very affordable to me and particularly as the dish was incredibly delicious! The wedges were genuinely incredible, and I wish I could eat them every day! Even at £5.50 for the starter, which was 3 large sized ribs with plenty of succulent meat. This alone impressed me and ensured that I plan to return and have told everybody about it too!

To finish I thought I would try something completely different and chose the Baked Berry Yoghurt (£5.15). Baked yoghurt sounded like an interesting concept, and certainly wasn’t something I had enjoyed before – and I am glad I opted for it, as it was delicious whilst being relatively light, so the perfect way to finish a meal.

I really cannot recommend Middletons Steakhouse enough. Our evening there was incredibly pleasant, and the rapport we had with our waiter too was enjoyable. He recommended the best accompaniments for dishes and was always on hand when we required additional drinks.

What’s more, they offer a really affordable Fixed Price Menu until 6pm (and 5pm on a Saturday) which includes 3 courses for just £9.95! I mean, you can’t really get a bigger bargain than that.
