The Red Dog, Inworth Essex

If you’re Essex based and looking for somewhere new to try for breakfast, lunch or dinner – I can’t recommend The Red Dog in Inworth more! With great prices and a compelling menu, I am already looking forward to my next visit.

Located in Inworth, about 15 minutes from Witham, and a little further from Chelmsford, The Red Dog is a burger bar serving some of the most delicious food in Essex. Open until just 8pm most nights, this isn’t a late night venue but certainly worth visiting at the weekend or after work – you really wont be disappointed.

We opted for their nachos (the cheese sauce – omg! I have never had better) and BBQ RD wings to start. I am not sure I had ever had breaded chicken wings before, but they were incredible and I could have just eaten plateful after plateful of those, forgetting all about the burger. What was great also about the nachos was that the toppings where mixed in and around the tortilla chips – none of those bland, plain chips left at the bottom of the dish like you get in some places.

Mains were a little bit more difficult to decide on. Whilst the burger menu isn’t huge, the options available all sound incredibly delicious and it took a bit of planning to decide what to have!

As well as burgers and sandwiches, The Red Dog offers some “Knife & Fork” dishes too for those that want a more refined meal. I have it on good account that the salmon on offer is out of this world, and certainly worth a try.

In the end I settled for the “Hen Pecked” burger which featured Marinated Chicken, Hash Brown, Smoked Bacon, Jack Cheese, Guacamole and Comeback Sauce. Now sometimes when you go for a chicken burger, non-breaded, it can be a bit bland and a little stale. This chicken was nothing like that – i’ve never had such a juicy breast of chicken and it worked perfectly with the accompanying ingredients too.

Tater tots and fries on the side completed the meal, and in honesty we couldnt finish it all so ended up taking some home!

For around £40 for the above and two drinks, I dont think this is bad value at all – especially considering the quality of the food and ingredients used. Locally sourced, even down to Maldon sea salt, you can really taste the freshness in every dish.

So if you’re nearby, pay a visit to The Red Dog and let me know what you think!
