Hair: From Frizz to Waves

There’s a big difference between frizzy and wavy hair. Both may consist of leaving your locks in its natural state but one does so with style whilst the other leaves you looking like you have got up on the wrong side of bed. So what can you do to ensure your hair is transformed from flyaway frizz to sleek and stylish waves?

Well, the first step is to wash your hair. If you’re aiming for wavy or curly hair, you should use appropriate products. Shampoo designed for straight hair isn’t going to help you achieve your desired look so instead, opt for a shampoo and conditioner designed to tame frizzy hair.

One of the reasons why frizz might occur is due to a lack of moisture in your hair. When conditioning, be sure to leave the product in your hair for a while before washing it out. This will allow the conditioner to work its magic. When you do rinse your hair, use cold water as it will keep your cuticles flat and leave your hair looking shiny and healthy as opposed to frizzy.

When brushing your hair make sure you do this when it is wet as brushing your hair when it is dry will upset your cuticles and create unwanted frizz. You should also try to use a wide tooth comb or if possible, just run your fingers through your hair.

Next you need to dry your hair. Heat damage is a major cause of frizz so try to avoid using a hair dryer. Instead, leave enough time to allow your hair to dry naturally. If you need to leave it overnight, try wrapping a t-shirt around your hair as opposed to a rough towel to prevent your hair from becoming frizzy as you move around in your sleep. If you decide you want to add some waves or curls to your locks, use non-heated rollers whilst your hair is still damp to create the look whilst avoiding heat damage.

So if you follow these simple steps your hair should now be left sleek and shiny. To maintain the look and master those natural waves, add some frizz-friendly hairspray or styling cream.

Dirty Looks – HK Hair Extensions

As you will know from my post the other day (here) I have been looking at ways I can make my hair look a little nicer since I made the silly mistake of cutting it all off!

Last year I had ‘proper’ extensions fitted and whilst I loved them they did take quite a bit of effort to maintain and they were expensive to fit. So instead I have decided to look in to clip-in extensions and give them a go.

The problem I have with clip-in extensions is that they never, ever match my hair colour. My hair is weird in that it seems to hold just about every different colour – I sometimes find black, red or brown strands! But when I was informed that Dirty Looks ran a colour match service for their HK Hair Extensions I thought I would give it a go.

I sent across a picture of my hair down and they quickly came back to say that they recommended the Manhattan Highlighted shade. I accepted their choice and soon my extensions were on their way to me.

Of course, I will admit that I had doubts as to whether they would truly match my hair colour. But when they arrived I was SO very pleased that even in the brightest light they matched my hair almost perfectly. What I love about these extensions is that they come with a “tester” clip that you can try before you open the entire packet of extensions. This is great for both sides as it ensures you can return the pack of extensions if not suitable and the company knows they have not been used.

Not only are they a great match but these beauties are the softest, silkiest extensions I have ever had the pleasure of wearing. They are gorgeous and the gentle curl of them makes them perfect for a night out too.

Retailing at £69.99 which I think is fairly reasonable for a full-head of extensions that are of such high quality. I have my eye on the wrap around ponytail (here) next now I know there is a colour that matches!

THX Define Style Deep Barrel Waver

THX – Define Style Deep barrel waver

One of my new favourite locations to purchase beauty products is Tesco. You will see from my previous post here just how impressed I have been with past purchases of Tesco brand beauty products and so I thought I would try something a little different!

Since making the silly mistake to cut my hair off I have been looking for things I can do to it other than just put it in a messy bun every day! I have long loved the vintage style waves/curls and thought I might give that a try. My shoulder length hair is the perfect length for this style and I thought it would polish my look a little better.

So I decided to give the Define Style Deep barrel waver from THX at Tesco a go. Retailing at just £35 this product wasn’t expensive and the packaging was classy too. The product itself is quite larger, larger than a standard curling tong, but the promise of sophisticated hair had me won over.

The ceramic plates heat up in just 2 minutes, meaning you don’t have to spend ages waiting around for it to get hot! You can also use the scroll button to change the temperature anywhere between 140º to 210º so you can be sure that the style will hold.

I have used this a few times now and I have been really impressed. The product is easy to use and it only takes me about 15-20 minutes to curl/wave my thick hair.

I will definitely be purchasing from the THX brand again in the future!

Have you tried any THX products?
