Summer Cocktails

I’m planning a little get together this weekend and have been trying to think of some exciting things to do for the food and drink. Especially the drink. Normally I tend to gravitate towards a glass of wine but with the sun promising to shine this weekend I thought it would be nice to try something a bit more exotic .

I found some really good cocktail recipes and have since spent hours trying to narrow my option down; so far I am down to 4 choices – all of which sound delicious!

Fancy trying something new this weekend too? Here’s my selection below – join in the fun!

Island Oasis

1½ oz. Voli Light Mango Coconut Vodka

6 blueberries

2 strawberries

1 oz. light sweet and sour mix

1 oz. light orange juice

Garnish: blueberries and strawberries

Muddle berries in a glass. Add remaining ingredients and stir. Garnish with blueberries and strawberries.

(Perfect to drink whilst dreaming of that tropical island you wish you were on!)

Pretty in Pink

2 oz. Tito’s Handmade Vodka

½ oz. pomegranate juice

Splash of pineapple juice

Combine all ingredients in a glass filled with ice and stir.

(This would look gorgeous served in a vintage china tea cup!)

Red Velvet Shortcake

1½ oz. Red Velvet ZING Vodka

2 oz. cream soda

Splash of lemon juice

2 strawberries

Garnish: strawberry

Muddle strawberries in a cocktail shaker. Add remaining ingredients except cream soda. Shake and strain into a glass filled with ice. Top with soda. Garnish with a strawberry.

(With a name like that do you even need an explanation?)

Summer Punch

3 c. Effen Vodka

1½ c. DeKuyper Watermelon Pucker Schnapps

2 c. lemon juice

2 c. simple syrup

Garnish: watermelon chunks

To make simple syrup, mix equal parts hot water and sugar until sugar is dissolved. Muddle cherries in a cocktail shaker. Combine all ingredients in a punch bowl or pitcher filled with ice. Stir gently and garnish with watermelon chunks.

(Perfect for sharing with friends – add some straws and treat it as a fish bowl!)

As you can see I seem to have chosen some of the most girly cocktails I could find, some that may not quite be a hit with the more manly members of my weekend party! So, I have decided to introduce a cocktail recipe for men to my shortlist that I found on the Homewetbar blog.

Old-Fashioned Cocktail

2 oz blended whiskey

1 sugar cube

1 dash bitters

1 slice lemon

1 cherry

1 slice orange

Combine the sugar cube, bitters, and 1 tsp. water in an old-fashioned glass. Muddle well, add blended whiskey, and stir. Add a twist of lemon peel and ice cubes. Add slices of orange and lemon and top with the cherry. Serve with a swizzle stick.

(Featured in Esquire this is sure to be a hit!)

What’s your go-to cocktail for a summers night?
