When you know you want to return to a place before you have even left it, you know it has really found a place in your heart and this was exactly true for Budapest!
We stayed in the city centre and found everything was on our doorstep, from bars to restaurants, boat tours and so much more you really didn’t need to travel that far to find something to do. However if you wanted to go that little further either by foot or public transport, there was so much to do too. In fact one day we walked 10 miles and still only saw a small slice of what Budapest had to offer!
One thing we love to do when we travel is to eat and Budapest certainly didn’t disappoint on this aspect. There was so many different restaurants to choose from whether for a formal dinner or more casual lunch. We spent a lot of our time before the trip reviewing TripAdvisor reviews and finding out the best places to eat and we weren’t disappointed.
We tried some local cuisine, including dumplings and paprika chicken, which were each delicious and full of flavour. We also visited a local gelato store which allows you to pick from three or more flavours of ice cream which are then crafted into a beautiful flower -perfect for Instagram photo or two!
Prices were reasonable with a two course meal plus a drink for two costing around £20-£25. Whilst not as cheap as some places we have been, like Poland, it still wasn’t expensive and certainly nothing like British prices.
We also paid a visit to one of the famous ruin bars and were pleased to discover that it was happy hour! This meant that all drinks were half price and so we selected two cocktails which cost around £2 each.
What is great about Budapest is that you can pretty much walk everywhere. From visiting the underground hospital up on the hill to the shoes on the River Danube nothing was too far to get to and along the way there was plenty of places to stop for a drink or a bite to eat.
I really cannot recommend Budapest more, we will certainly be visiting again soon as there is still a lot left that we would like to do. So whether you enjoy a bit of culture, great nightlife or trying out some new foods, Budapest is the ideal destination for you and you certainly won’t be left bored – or hungry!0
